Chicago Yacht Club is pleased to announce that the 2019 Annual Chicago Regatta, presented by Wintrust, will take place on Saturday, September 14th. The Chicago Regatta will benefit three Chicagoland children’s charities: the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital; SOS Children’s Villages Illinois; and the Chicago Yacht Club Foundation. Last year, Chicago boaters raised over $100,000 for these three charities and are currently on pace to exceed that amount this year. More than 100 boats, and more than 1,000 participants, are expected to take part in the 2019 Chicago Regatta events.
“The Chicago Regatta symbolizes the generosity and community focused mindset of the Chicago Yacht Club membership” said Lou Sandoval commodore Chicago Yacht Club. “Every year, we surpass our fundraising goals to further extend the reach that this event has on some very deserving charitable organizations. We are thankful for the support of the entire boating community in this important endeavor.”
The regatta includes a number of events for all types of boaters, including buoy racing, a distance race, a fun and easy casual race for newer racers, as well as remote control Dragon Force 65 racing from the shore. In addition, power boaters will enjoy an exciting poker run along Chicago’s lakefront. Following the on-water events, Chicago Yacht Club will welcome boaters to “Sweet Home Chicago” post-race party and silent auction at its Monroe Harbor Station. “Chicago Yacht Club is pleased to host the Chicago Regatta. This unique event offers something for everyone. We are looking forward to providing a great experience and benefitting our three outstanding charities,” noted CYC Past Commodore and Chicago Regatta Chair Greg Miarecki.
The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital has provided comprehensive, innovative medical care to children since its first pediatric facility was opened in 1930. Today, Comer Children’s is a 172-bed hospital staffed by highly trained pediatricians, specially trained nurses and caring support staff, who work together to provide general and specialty medical care for newborns to young adults.
SOS Children’s Villages Illinois, founded over 25 years ago, is a nonprofit, child welfare agency that serves children in foster care and at-risk youth in communities surrounding its sites. The SOS Children’s Villages model of care differs from traditional foster care by keeping brothers and sisters together in an SOS Illinois single-family home, where they are cared for by a full-time, professionally trained Foster Parent and surrounded by a community of support.
The Chicago Yacht Club Foundation brings awareness and appreciation of the nautical arts and traditions to the Chicagoland community. A primary goal is to broaden the horizons of youth through instruction in after school programs, sailing scholarships, and sailing clinics.
