The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services says it will use $3.75 million from the federal stimulus program for the initiative.
About 230 people will be part of the city’s Neighborhood Clean-Up Initiative over the next two years.
It’s one of the city’s second-chance programs where people can get work experience and learn other skills like picking up garbage, controlling vegetation and cleaning commercial areas.
Program participants also learn to use a variety of equipment like saws, mowers and pruners.
The city is looking for agencies to help train people.
