CHICAGO (AP) — The city of Chicago plans to analyze youth shootings in two of the city’s most violence-plagued neighborhoods.

Evelyn Diaz of the city’s Family and Support Services Department says the Chicago Youth Shooting Review will look at all shootings involving people under age 21 in the 11th Police District on the city’s West Side and the 4th District on the southeast side.

The data gathered by the project will be shared among several government and nonprofit agencies so that new police and public health tactics can be developed to reduce crime.

The Chicago City Council is expected to approve the project next week so that data considered confidential can be shared with various departments and agencies.

The project is modeled after one in Milwaukee that helped reduce murders in targeted areas.
