Chicago State University’s leadership transformation begins with New Board Members

Chicago State University (CSU), one of Illinois’ oldest public universities, is known for providing access to higher education for students of diverse backgrounds and educational needs. Chicago State University’s chief fundraising partner, the Chicago State Foundation (CSF) proudly announced its new executive board members.

“Chicago State Foundation (CSF) is a newly transformed 501c3 that works to identify strategic private support priorities, create suitable fundraising strategies, and implement effective development programs designed to advance the interests and welfare of the University.”

20200129_083545.pngAccording to the press release, the new board and leadership team “…will support the university through a positive transformation stage to execute President Zaldwaynaka Scott’s comprehensive plan for growing student enrollment and increasing retention and graduation.” The plan is targeted to meet the needs of the majority of the student body, which focuses explicitly on first-generation college students that are 61% of the student body and the 80% that are African American and Latinx.

Newly named Executive Director, Darrious Hilmon, most recently served as Chief of External Affairs at Chicago International Charter School. He oversaw “the design and implementation of fund development, communications, student enrolment, and community engagement and advocacy initiatives for the 14-campus charter school network.” He also served as Executive Vice President and COO for the Chicago Urban League.

Angelique David, Board Chair is the Executive Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer, and General Counsel of Zielgler. She also serves as a Director on Zieglers Board of Directors, a member of its Executive Committee and Chair of its Operating Committee.

The CSF Board also appointed four additional board members, “each recognized for offering unique expertise and perspective to serve the needs of the Universities population.”

Sherell Fuller – The first African American female to hold elected office in Downers Grove as Board of High School District 99 and who currently serves as the Senior Global Account Director for CenturyLink.

Adon Navarette – A successful business and funding entrepreneur who is currently the owner of the consulting practice, Bonaficios Inc.

Jerell Parker – Senior Vice President at CBS Global Distribution and a coach with First Step Youth Foundation and Varsity basketball coach at St. Francis De Sales High School.

Christina Steed – The Executive Vice President of Client Relations at Flowers Communication Group. She is also a member of numerous organizations.
