The Chicago Sky suffered their 14th loss of the season against the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx at Wintrust Arena on Monday night. Despite both teams’ records and the final score, the two teams were relatively evenly matched throughout the majority of the game.
Reese continued her dominance from their last game against the Lynx on Saturday, finishing with her ninth straight double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds. The only other starter to finish with double-digit points was Rachel Banham, with 15 points. Rebecca Allen also added ten points off the bench.
Fueled by Reece’s performance, both teams exchanged leads throughout the first half. However, it was in the third quarter that the Lynx began to take over. Napheesa Collier finished with 29 points, five assists, and three steals; Courtney Williams added 18 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals; Kayla McBride also contributed 17 points, and Bridget Carleton scored 11 for the Lynx.

Off a three from Carleton, the Lynx secured a 47-46 lead and did not let up for the rest of the game. The Lynx successfully outscored the Sky 47-32 in the second half, mainly due to their suffocating defense. The Lynx totaled 14 steals and six blocks as a team, forcing multiple Chicago turnovers. “We didn’t handle the pressure great today,” Marsh said, per Moreau Sports Media Prod Co. “The first half, we managed it pretty well … the second half, they just played a little bit harder than we did. We didn’t close out the game like we wanted to today.”
The Sky also struggled with keeping the ball within their position during the game, totaling 18 turnovers, which resulted in 24 points for Minnesota. “The ball didn’t move as quickly as we wanted to,” Marsh added, according to Bell. “They did a decent job with us on the offensive glass. They capitalized on our turnovers. We just got to do a better job of taking care of the ball.”
The Chicago Sky now fall to 7-14, placing them in 10th place in the WNBA standings. The Minnesota Lynx rise to 19-4, firmly solidifying themselves as the number-one team in the league. The Sky will try to bounce back at Wintrust Arena on Wednesday for an 11 a.m. (CT) game versus the Atlanta Dream. Lynx will also play on Wednesday night against the Phoenix Mercury. Angel Reese and Courtney Williams will also be teaming up in the WNBA All-Star game this Saturday in Indianapolis.
