Chicago Sky Draft Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, Creating Fan Buzz

A “Most Outstanding Player” and the Bayou Barbie are coming to “Skytown.”

In Monday night’s WNBA Draft, the Chicago Sky selected former University of South Carolina star Kamilla Cardoso and the equally electrifying Angel Reese from Louisiana State University, with the No. 3 and No. 7 picks, respectively.

“I’m super excited to compete. Work hard, and let’s win,” said Reese in a video clip that appeared on X.

In selecting Cardoso and Reese, the Sky got two of the biggest stars in NCAA Women’s Basketball, primetime players who shined during the March Madness tournament. They also added pure shooter Brynna Maxwell out of Gonzaga with the top pick in the second round.

The additions of Cardoso, Reese and Maxwell already have some of Chicago’s top officials talking and tweeting.

Each player should bolster a Sky team that made the playoffs but finished with a losing record last season. Cardoso, who won a championship with South Carolina earlier this month and was voted Most Outstanding Player during the NCAA tournament, is expected to bring much-needed defense and rim protection. Reese, who won a championship with LSU in 2023, will add rebounding, and Maxwell will bring three-point shooting.

They will join new Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon and returning All-Star Kahleah Copper.

Either way, the 2024 Chicago Sky season opens on May 15 at the Dallas Wings. The Sky’s first home game of the season will be on May 25 against the Connecticut Sun.

It’s worth noting that the Indiana Fever selected University of Iowa star Caitlin Clark with the draft’s No. 1 overall pick.

Reese is slated to battle her old college rival Clark on June 1. They will play in Chicago at the Wintrust Arena on June 23.
