CHICAGO (AP) — The city of Chicago is looking for a new batch of dancers and choreographers to apply for free downtown rehearsal space.

Chicago cultural affairs officials say they’re seeking applications for the winter and summer sessions of the DanceBridge program. The program selects dancers and choreographers to receive free rehearsal space for 12 weeks at the Chicago Cultural Center’s dance studio. The program started in summer 2006 to provide promising artists with the opportunity to develop new work.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has said he wants to make the city a center for the art of dance. Dance experts say securing rehearsal space can be a challenge for both emerging and established choreographers.

The deadline to apply for the winter and summer sessions is Nov. 1.
