Chicago Public School officials say the number of schools going to a year-round calendar this academic year is increasing. School officials say 132 schools in the nation’s third-largest district will be year-round for the 2009-2010 school year. That’s up from 41 last academic year. The year-round calendar started Monday. It affects about 80,000 students. Chicago Public Schools CEO Ron Huberman is reminding parents and students to stay informed, especially with it being a new calendar for many. The year-round calendar has the same number of school days as a traditional school year, but the year is broken up with several breaks throughout the year. About 408,000 students attend Chicago Public Schools. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
