The “Pop Princess of Chicago,” better known as Demi Lobo, has embraced Chicago with her ‘drama queen’ ways, won two local music awards and is now taking over the radio airwaves in the city.

The “Pop Princess of Chicago,” better known as Demi Lobo, has embraced Chicago with her ‘drama queen’ ways, won two local music awards and is now taking over the radio airwaves in the city.
Born in California but raised in Chicago, the rising starlet attended Eastern Illinois University, focusing on a writing career, before transferring Columbia College Chicago to pursue music and broadcasting, where she’s currently a student.
Lobo’s music and broadcast career are off to an amazing start, she said. She was recently added to WGCI-FM/107.5’s weekend on-air personality team.
While enjoying all genres of music, she wrote mainly rhythm and blues music but realized it wasn’t fun as she’d thought. Then, Pop music and “Drama Queen” entered her life.
“I liked the sound of music for “Drama Queen” and felt the rush of doing it,” Lobo told the Defender. “When I first started Pop music no one in Chicago was doing it.”
‘Queen,’ her first single, had a high response with her fans, thus branding her with the nickname.
“Being a drama queen to me is a good thing”, she said. “They get the party started, they’re loud and can be misinterpreted.”
During her career thus far, she’s opened for several high-profile artists, including R. Kelly, Gucci Mane and Day 26, and performed on national shows such as BET’s “106 and Park.” Earlier this year, Lobo snagged two Chicago Independent Awards –– Best Pop Artist and Female Artist of the Year.
“I just want to keep doing more shows to add to my resume. I want to be that person in the spotlight, that’s where I want to be,” she said, adding, “I hope for a record deal, one that fits me; I want a Drake-type of deal.”
She recently shot the music video to her latest song “House Party”, the first single on her forthcoming EP.
As a young woman and entertainer she advises others who are trying to make their dreams come reality to never give up.
“I would advise people who are putting in so much time to not jeopardize anything. Go for your dreams to the fullest,” Lobo said.
Not looking at herself as just a performer, Lobo says she’s also a role model, serving as spokesperson for Washington elementary school’s “Why Be Free Campaign”
“I spoke to 6th-, 7th- and 8th-graders, telling them that they are way too young to be smoking and drinking,” she said. “They should be doing more positive things and always doing something constructive.”
