Chicago native, Team Michael Wilbon beat Team Stephen A. Smith 62-47 in the NBA Celebrity Game held at the Wintrust Arena Friday night. Lead by Chicago rapper and Oscar Winner, Common; the team overpowered Team Smith, led by Chicago artist Chance the Rapper. The night began with a 24.2 second moment of silence to honor NBA superstar, Kobe Bryant, his daughter, Gianna, and the other victims who died in the helicopter crash on January 26th. Wilbon’s team consisted of celebrity players, team captain, rapper and actor, Common, Recording artist, Bad Bunny, Actor and Comedian, Hannibal Buress, AMA award-winning artist, Kane Brown, Jon Batiste, bandleader for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” actor Alex Moffat, Chef, Jose Andres, Influencer, Famous Los, Recording Artist, Jidenna, WNBA star, Chelsea Gray and Quentin Richardson showed their basketball skills throughout the night.
Playing for coach Stephen A. Smith, were team captain and Chicago native, Chance the Rapper, rappers Quavo and Taylor Bennett, actors, LaRoyce Hawkins, Anthony “Spice” Adams, and Lil Rel Howery. Rounding out the team was Marc Lasry, co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, gymnast, Katelyn Ohashi, Ronnie 2K, WNBA star, A’ja Wilson, and NBA legend, Darius Miles.
Team Wilbon came out strong, taking an early lead and keeping control most of the game. During a shooting contest between Team Smith’s, Darius Miles, and Team Wilbon’s Quentin Richardson, each team added a former NBA player to their roster. Former Chicago Bull, Horace Grant joined Team Wilbon and NBA Slam Dunk champ, Nate Robinson, joined Team Smith. Coach Steven A. Smith earned the first technical foul in an NBA Celebrity game after becoming irritated at a foul call. Celebrity game MVP, Common had a strong performance with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and 4 steals while Famous Los led the team with 23 points for the win and bragging rights over coach Stephen A. Smith.
