Chicago police and public school officials have announced plans to intensify curfew enforcement in an effort to curb youth violence. Police Superintendent Jody Weis announced Monday the department also will add more officers to its Mobile Strike Force as part of the effort to combat violence among youth. According to Weis, 50 officers will be taken from the department’s 25 districts to create a third unit. The move comes despite complaints by some districts (that) manpower is being adversely affected by the creation of specialized units. However, Weis said the units give him the flexibility to move officers to where they are needed. Weis said police would expand a program in which students can send anonymous tips about possible criminal activity.
