CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities say a Chicago police officer did not suffer life-threatening injuries when he was shot while working on the city’s South Side.

CHICAGO (AP) — Authorities say a Chicago police officer did not suffer life-threatening injuries when he was shot while working on the city’s South Side.

According to Chicago police, the officer was responding to a call of shots fired from a house when the shooting occurred. In a statement, authorities say two officers were walking to the rear of the location when shots were fired.

One officer was struck in the vest and arm, but returned fire.

The officer, identified as 41 years old and a seven-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition was reported as "stable."

According to the statement, detectives were questioning people of interest in the shooting. Several guns were recovered from the house.
