A delegation of Chicago Olympic officials is overseas to take part in the Mediterranean Games. Local Chicago Olympic officials attend major sporting events around the globe as they work to raise Chicago’s profile as it bids to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. For instance, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley was at last summer’s Beijing Olympics with a local contingent to try to win international support. Chicago is a finalist along with Tokyo, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro. The International Olympic Committee will pick the host city in October. The delegation in Italy includes Chicago 2016 chief Patrick Ryan. The games run until July 5.
