Chicago marks Veterans Day at Soldier Field

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago will mark Veterans’ Day with a ceremony at Soldier Field.

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago will mark Veterans’ Day with a ceremony at Soldier Field.

The Friday ceremony starts at 11 a.m. on the 11th of November in 2011. Army Specialist Danielle Green-Byrd will be the keynote speaker. She’s now retired, but was one of the first women wounded in Iraq and earned a Purple Heart. Green-Byrd is a Chicago native and played basketball at Roosevelt High School and the University of Notre Dame.

The program will include a wreath laying ceremony and a 21-gun salute. The 85th Army Band will play "Taps" and the "Armed Forces Medley." The United States Naval Academy Gospel Choir will sing "America the Beautiful."

The ceremony is free and open to the public. There is free parking.
