CHICAGO (AP) – Authorities have charged a Chicago man with felony fleeing who they say caused a wreck that led to a woman’s hand being amputated.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports  a judge on Sunday ordered 21-year-old Arley Romero held on $100,000 bond. Prosecutors say Romero was speeding on Friday before he crashed into the 59-year-old woman’s car, which flipped.

Witnesses say Romero ran to the women’s vehicle after the crash but fled before police arrived. She was taken to an area hospital, where the hand was removed. Her condition is unclear.

Police arrested Romero at his home after troopers tracked him using his license plate.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Romero has an attorney.
