“We’re thrilled to have partnered with CDPH and CPD to launch this fun activity for summer campers highlighting ahealthy community. As an organization of approximately 2,000 pediatricians focused on promoting and advocating for optimal child, youth and family wellbeing, and access to quality healthcare in Illinois, we hope participation in the contest not only empowered campers to use their creativity but also educated them on the importance ofgoing to the doctor for routine checkups and immunizations,” said Kathy Sanabria, Associate Executive Director at the Illinois Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (ICAAP).

Campers aged 6-9 drew “Health Heroes” and the tools they use to help keep people healthy; those aged 10-12drew “A Healthy Chicago” which includes staying active, eating nutritious foods, and visiting the doctor for regularcheckups.

“This contest was a great way to encourage children to think how we can all make Chicago a safer and healthier place,” said Dr. Marielle Fricchione, Immunization Program Medical Director at the Chicago Department of Public Health. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with ICAAP and CPD to promote the importance of vaccines and protect Chicagoans from serious diseases.”

“We truly enjoyed seeing how our campers illustrated the importance of health and wellness in their submissions. As one of the oldest and largest park districts in the country, CPD is committed to promoting health, wellness, and physical activity to Chicagoans of all ages.” said Colleen Lammel, Wellness Manager at the Chicago Park District.“It was exciting to present this fun, educational activity for the last two weeks of summer camps.”
