The City of Chicago and the Chicago Police Department partnered with community- and faith-based organizations to host the citywide gun turn-in event June 23 at several locations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The City of Chicago and the Chicago Police Department partnered with community- and faith-based organizations to host the citywide gun turn-in event June 23 at several locations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Anyone can turn in a firearm, no questions asked, and receive a $100 MasterCard gift card. Also, BB and replica guns can be turned in for a $10 MasterCard gift card.
The event has set two national records –– in 2006 with 3,000-plus guns and another the next year with 6,700-plus guns turned in. Over last six years 23,000 guns have been taken off the streets of Chicago.
