Shari Addison had always been entrenched in gospel music.

She was a singing powerhouse at her Bright Star Church Of God In Christ.

Then Black Enterprise Television created a new show that scouted the nation for the best undiscovered gospel vocal talent. It was a search for Sunday Best.

After auditioning for the show, and almost not making it in 2007, Addison, a South Side native, was selected as a wild card for the show.

After weeks of competition on the hugely popular show, where she saw a number of fellow Chicago singers eliminated, Addison emerged as a finalist on the show.

Though she did not win the first prize, she has proven that she is a Sunday favorite. Her debut album, Shari Addison, sits at No. 5 on the Billboard charts after hitting the No. 1 spot since its January release.

And now it has garnered Addison three Stellar nods.

The album is up for best traditional CD and Addison is up for best traditional female artist of the year and best new artist.

Helping gospel choirs to make a comeback in the industry, Malcolm Williams and Great Faith Choir are a part of blazing a new trail.

Williams and Great Faith are up for a Stellar choir of the year award and their In Your Glory CD, which debuted this summer, received a traditional CD of the year nomination.

The Stellar Awards will be taped in Nashville on Jan. 16 at the Grand Ole Opry.
