CHICAGO (AP) – A Chicago Fire Department employee is suing the city after a federal commission upheld her sexual harassment charge against a former fire commissioner.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports Tuesday that 47-year-old payroll auditor Deidre Green filed a lawsuit over what she says was sexual harassment by retired Fire Commissioner John Brooks. Green said in 2010 that Brooks came on to her sexually and targeted her for layoff when she denied his advances.
Brooks has said he doesn’t proposition women. The newspaper couldn’t reach him Tuesday for comment.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruled in 2012 that Green established reasonable cause to believe she was a victim.
The city says the lawsuit should be dismissed because Green doesn’t identify a city policy or practice that led to the alleged harassment.
