A trio of Chicago’s industry giants – James A. Bell, corporate president and chief financial officer of The Boeing Co.; Frank M. Clark, chair and CEO of ComEd; and John W. Rowe, chair and CEO of Exelon Corp., the parent company of ComEd – have signed on as chairs of “Chicago Dream Dinner” in support of the Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation Inc.
The dinner, Feb. 17 (6 p.m., cocktails; 7 p.m. dinner) at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, will raise funds for the completion of the memorial honoring Dr. King’s legacy. The foundation has already raised over $102 million of the $120 million needed. A ceremonial groundbreaking took place in November ‘06 and the memorial will be completed next year.
In 2008, Chicago-based Boeing donated $1 million to support construction of the memorial. Additionally, Boeing and its advertising partner, Draftfcb, have created an ad campaign, “Have A Dream,” to raise greater awareness of the memorial foundation’s fundraising efforts by delivering a clear, focused and inspirational message. Donations can be made on the foundation’s Web site, BuildTheDream.org, which is a featured element in the campaign.
Among those included on the host committee of the “Chicago Dream Team” dinner are U.S. Sens. Roland Burris and Dick Durbin, Gov. Pat Quinn, James Compton, Ill. Reps. Danny Davis, Jesse Jackson Jr., Luis Guitierrez and Bobby Rush, Cheryle Jackson, Mellody Hobson, Don Thompson, Rufus Williams, Earl Jones, Angela Ingram, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Cook County Board President Todd Stroger, Hermene Hartman, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Sec’y of State Jesse White, Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias and Mayor Richard Daley is honorary chair.
