CHICAGO (AP) — Some Chicago aldermen want to make it harder for teens who are tempted to text while driving. It’s already illegal to text and drive, but city aldermen want to do more. They want new cell phones purchased in Chicago after Jan. 1, 2012 to include a feature that lets parents disable texting if the device is in a car going more than 5 mph. The five aldermen who co-sponsored the proposed measure say it’s another step to try to save teens lives. The proposed measure also would apply to new tablet computers and text pagers. The aldermen introduced the measure at the last City Council meeting presided over by retiring Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Daley will be replaced May 16 by former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel. Copyright 2011 The Associated Press.
