This weekend, you will want to join Chef Judson Todd Allen, the “Architect of Flavor,” for his first annual Chef Blend event! It is definitely the place you wantto be. Judson Todd Allen, celebrity chef and former “Next Food Network Star” contestant, is a Chicago native and entrepreneur whose mission is to eradicate childhood obesity at the community level. How wonderful is that? He has partnered with the University of Chicago charter schools in an effort to work with children who live in underprivileged areas and food deserts to teach them to source fresh, healthy food and in turn educate their families about nutritious and flavorful food. By orchestrating this weekend of events, Judson hopes to reinforce his platform that healthy and flavorful food is within reach for everyone.
The activities kick off on the evening of Thursday, January 15th at 6:00pm at the Chopping Block in the Merchandise Mart Plaza with a chef competition, where teams of gourmands compete in a challenge using a basket of mystery ingredients!
Friday, January 16th is the official Chef Blend Event, where from 5:00 pm -9:00 pm at Snaidero, in Merchandise Mart Plaza, guests will be immersed in a culturally diverse culinary experience as they nosh and mingle with fellow foodies at a soiree hosted by Erica Watson, actor and stand-up comedian, and Nicole Suarez, broadcast journalist and community activist. While enjoying the sounds of musical guests DJ J Illa and renowned band Marqueal Jordan and the Players, attendees will be treated to sample food from local restaurants that feature healthy, sustainable ingredients such as Brown Sugar Bakery, Klay Oven, and Jamaican Grill, to name a few. As a special treat, guests will also sip a new signature Bloody Mary Margarita, infused with Maracame Tequila and Chef Allen’s own natural Chef Blend habanero hot sauce.
The weekend is capped off on Saturday at the Chicago Travel & Adventure Show in Rosemont with a food demonstration by Chef Allen and the Bella Cuisine Kids Cooking Club. Don’t miss it!
