Singer/Songwriter, Chantay Savage is Fearless in Her Art

Chantay Savage Chicago DefenderSinger/Songwriter, Chantay Savage, is fearless in her art.  Inspired by the protests happening around the globe, especially in her hometown of Chicago, she wrote a new song, “Tear it Down.”  Produced by Grammy Nominated Producer, Terry Hunter, with additional performances by Rapper, Shawnna and in the spirit of protest songs of the past, this song captures the pain, anger, sadness, and frustration at the current state of the world. Black America is feeling it from all sides, a pandemic disproportionately affecting our communities, revolution, riots, racism, police brutality, violence, and protests.  “Tear it Down” is a rallying cry from a people who are tired and weary from it all.

Chantay Savage is an artist known for her many R&B and dance songs in addition to her hit-making songwriting skills. Like many artists, she saw her calendar for the year erased due to the COVID-19 pandemic and watched civil unrest unfold across countless cities in America, including Chicago.

“This is where we are now…I refuse to edit the meaning of what I had to say.  This is how we feel right now.  We are just tired.  At some point, when you are trying to convey a message, you can’t sugarcoat this anymore. We have to say what we feel because you see it. What you can’t deny is the truth in it.”

Chantay Savage referenced Nina Simone when discussing why she felt it was important to make this song.  “An artist’s duty as far as I’m concerned is to reflect the times.” She thought it was imperative to release how she felt as she scrolled social media pages and watched the news.  She described the process as therapeutic. Check out the rest of my interview with this incredible artist.

Chantay’s new single, “Tear it Down,” is available on streaming platforms everywhere and on Traxsource for Purchase.
