Changes to state’s flu hotline

Now there’s a place you can call 24 hours a day, seven days a week if you have questions about the flu. Callers to the Illinois Flu Hotline can also now ask medical questions of doctors and nurses on the hotline about seasonal flu, the swine flu and the H1N1 virus. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois Poison Center have partnered to staff the hotline. Public health spokeswoman Kelly Jakubek says previously the hotline was not open continuously and was not staffed by medical professionals. Illinois Public Health Director Dr. Damon Arnold says the spread of the flu can be reduced if people know more about it. People can all the Illinois Flu Hotline at 866-848-2094.
