The U.S. Green Building Council has granted its LEED platinum certification to a rehabbed CHA senior building on the North Side.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

CHA says its Kenmore apartments have been outfitted with plumbing fixtures that conserve water, and rain gardens and a green roof have been added to the building’s interior courtyards.

The ground level now includes a library with a fireplace, a multipurpose room and a fitness center.

The American Society of Interior Designers has also awarded the building with an excellence award in green residential design.
