SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Downstate cemetery officials are getting their turn in front of a task force that was set up after the desecration of a graveyard in the Chicago suburbs. The task force is scheduled to hear from managers of cemeteries in Springfield and Rock Island on Tuesday. A Belleville legislator is on the agenda too. The task force is supposed to produce recommendations on cemetery oversight and regulation. The possibilities include licensing cemetery workers and better electronic tracking of burial sites. The panel was created after workers at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip were accused of digging up bodies and double-stacking coffins. ______ In photo: Attorney Patricia Brown Holmes, chairperson of the Cemetery Oversight Task Force, presided over the first meeting of the task force Thursday, July 23, 2009, in Chicago. The nine-person panel was formed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn in the wake of allegations that bodies were dug up at Burr Oak Cemetery so the plots could be resold. (AP Photo/M.
