The state’s junior U.S. Sen. Roland Burris delivered the keynote address Saturday at the Roseland CeaseFire Annual Open House event held at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 211 E. 115th St. The democrat is currently working to pass youth jobs legislation in the nation’s capital that he believes would help address some of the youth violence. The jobs for youth bill, the senator said, would grant millions of dollars to provide employment to teenagers around the nation who reside in dangerous communities and are exposed to criminal activity.  Burris said access to summer employment would give young citizens a chance to escape street violence and gang activity, while actively contributing to their local areas.
