Burns had seven months left on her contract before station management announced there was no option for renewal. She was not the only newsroom casualty. Three other on-air journalists, in addition to more than 10 offair employees, were relieved of their duties.
Station officials chalked up the decisions to budgetary issues. Burns spent 18 years at ABCowned WLS Channel 7 before joining Channel 2.
