Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas recently hosted a back-to-school rally and delivered school supplies to students at Jesse Sherwood Elementary School in the city’s Englewood neighborhood.

Thomas, along with Bulls legend and community relations director Bob Love and team mascot Benny The Bull personally delivered donated school supplies to students at Sherwood, 245 W. 57th St., including spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, pocket folders, crayons and backpacks.

Additionally, they hosted a back-to-school rally to celebrate the occasion and the beginning of the school year.

The Bulls back-to-school supply drive ran from August 8 through September 7, and area residents were encouraged to donate school supplies to any of the 20 local Kia Motors retailers.

The Bulls announced their television broadcast schedule for the 2008-09 seasons.

For the first time in team history, all 82 regular season games will be televised in high definition, including seven preseason games. The Bulls will make 34 nationally televised appearances on TNT, ESPN, NBA-TV and WGN America (previously known as Superstation WGN). Comcast SportsNet will televise 42 regular season games, with four of those games being aired on Comcast SportsNet Plus.

Calling the action for every Bulls game this season will be Neil Funk and Stacey King. After 17 seasons as the Bulls’ radio play-by-play announcer, Funk moves over to TV, where he will join King. Long time Bulls announcer Johnny “Red” Kerr rounds out the broadcast team with appearances during pre-game and halftime shows for all Bulls home games on Comcast SportsNet, WGN-TV and WCIU-TV.

“Once again we are very pleased that Bulls fans in the Chicago area will have the ability to watch every Bulls game on television,” said Bulls Vice President of Business Operations Steve Schanwald. “We’re also very excited that Bulls fans will be able to enjoy every game in HD. Last year, every Bulls game sold out, and I anticipate the same to be the case this coming season.

“Our arena only seats just under 22,000 fans, and these telecasts play a very important role in satisfying the demand of millions of Bulls fans for access to their favorite basketball team. We are especially pleased to note that 34 of our games will be televised nationally, so that our fans outside the Chicago area will be able to follow us all season long as well.”

The Bulls tip off the 2008-09 regular season on WGN-TV October 28 with a 7:30 p.m. game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Comcast SportsNet will air its first regular season Bulls game on October 31 at 7 p.m., when the Bulls travel to Boston to take on the defending NBA Champion Celtics.

The Bulls will make their WCIU-TV debut on November 5 at 7 p.m. at Cleveland. In addition to Chicago’s 15 nationally televised games on WGN America, the team will also appear on TNT six times, ESPN four times and NBA-TV nine times.
