ATLANTA — The august audience inside the Marriott Marquis ballroom wanted to do what “Girlfriends Getaway” director Roger Bobb did: hug Essence Atkins after her she delivered her powerful and poignant awards speech. Her eloquent words of gratitude bathed the audiences’ psyche and massaged their souls during the Bronzelens Film Festival’s 5th Annual Women Superstars Luncheon.
The beautiful thespian’s warm spirit and humbleness filled the auditorium as she admitted she didn’t feel worthy — something that many of her listeners can relate to — to be bestowed the Vanguard Superstar Award at this juncture in her career.
The audience also wanted to throw a collective embrace around Rising Superstar Award recipient Logan Browning. The former “Meet the Browns” star whose hazel eyes blaze like fire on the runaway hit show, “Hit the Floor,” shared how her dreams led her from her suburban Atlanta roots to Hollywood as a teenager — and how, ironically, her acting opportunities kept bringing her back to the ATL. But she also shared the pain of how her late father’s deteriorating health conditions also brought her back to suburban Atlanta (Clayton County, Ga.), making the occasion bittersweet for her. 
The throngs of Bronzelens awards attendees’ spirits were raised the incandescent light that is Wendy Raquel Robinson (“Steve Harvey Show”) whose tenure on the popular BET show “The Game” made her a household name and, appropriately, is the winner of the 2014 Legends Superstar Award. The Womens Superstar Award Luncheon reached its zenith when the packed ballroom showered the grandson of the universally beloved Ruby Dee with a thunderous rousing applause in accepting the Legendary Award Posthumously.
