Repair work on a major downtown Chicago bridge may cause some headaches for commuters this week.
Chicago Transit Authority officials said Sunday that service will be interrupted for two nine-day periods while work begins on the 91-year-old Wells Street Bridge.
The project will involves putting new sections on the double-decker moveable bridge. Crews will dismantle and replace parts of the bridge. The sections will be assembled elsewhere and transported by barge on the Chicago River.
The first traffic detour goes through next Sunday. The second will be April 26 through May 5. CTA officials will also do track work. Several train lines will be affected, including route changes.
City officials say the bridge has been in service since 1922.
