Judge Peter Flynn’s Ruling in FOP v. City of Chicago – 7/8/16

The Chicago Defender has learned that the Honorable Judge Peter Flynn who adjudicated the FOP, PBPA v. The City of Chicago et al., has overturned the lower court’s decision on appeal and ordered CPD to preserve the police misconduct records and to release them to the media outlets that originally requested them through the Freedom of Information Act.
What this means is that the years of fighting for the preservation as well as access to the records has finally paid off. Now, the real work begins – uncovering the patterns and practices that these records might reveal – dating back to the 1960s.
