CHICAGO (AP) — A huge blizzard is bearing down on Illinois right on schedule.
National Weather Service meteorologist Chuck Schaffer in Lincoln says that the 1-2 inches of snow that fell overnight is about what was expected and more snow is expected in the Chicago area early Tuesday afternoon.
Schaffer says the good news is that the weather system stretching from central Illinois near Quincy to the northeast across Peoria and up into Chicago won’t result in heavy snow until most people are home from work Tuesday evening and in bed overnight.
He says during that time as much as three inches and hour may fall accumulating to as much as 22 inches.
Winds are forecast to gust 35-40 mph — meaning there may be complete whiteout conditions Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
