Black-owned grocery store has grand opening

In a weeklong celebration that began on Oct. 1, Farmers Best Market, 1424 W. 47th Street, hosted its grand opening. Alderman Pat Dowell (3rd), center, holding scissors, helped store owner Karriem Beyah, fourth from right, cut the ribbon on the new store. Beyah becomes the city’s only Black grocery store owner, after Chatham Foods was sold to non-Black owners earlier this year.
