A Wisconsin man has been charged after he was allegedly defending himself and loved ones during a drive-by shooting.

According to Atlanta Black Star, Jared Cooks, 27, was charged with first-degree reckless endangering safety with a dangerous weapon in connection to a May 2020 shooting in Kenosha.

Cooks was reportedly sitting outside of his cousin’s home with family when two cars sped up the street and shot at the residence and their neighbors.

Cooks and his cousin fired back with guns they legally possessed.

No one was hurt in the shooting, but police arrested most of the residents in the area.

None of the drive-by shooters have been arrested or charged while Cooks faces up to 20 years in prison for reckless endangerment, according to reports.

“I avoided trouble my whole life. I am a good person,” Cooks told the Kenosha County Eye. “Why use me to prove a point that you don’t like citizens having guns for protection? It’s our right under Wisconsin Law and under the constitution.”

Cooks’ trial is set to begin in April.
