The Gene Siskel Film Center is encouraging film buffs to view various films that are part of the 15th Annual Black Harvest International Festival of Film that will be screened at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 164 N. State St., through September 3.
Included in the festival will be an Aug. 15 panel discussion on how to get a movie made. The panel, which annually debates issues relating to Black filmmaking, will dissect the process of making a film–from getting the money to casting, production, post-production and distribution. Black Harvest festival consultant Sergio Mims heads up a panel of filmmakers that also includes directors Archie Roper ("Black Girl"), Faith Trimel ("Family"), Lawrence Lee Wallace ("If You Love Me…") and producer Natalie Perkins ("Silas Lynch").
SPECIAL SCREENING OF FILMS AND VIDEOS:
Scott Sanders directed "Black Dynamite," starring Michael Jai White and Kym Whitley Aug. 15 and Aug. 20. The 90-minute long film was a runaway hit at the Sundance Film Festival. Director Scott Sanders will be present on Aug. 15 for audience discussion.
