Lawmakers are considering a bill to allow some central Illinois cities to install cameras to catch cars running red lights. The Illinois House this week approved a proposal to allow towns in Macon and McLean counties to install the cameras. Chicago and some St. Louis-area cities already have the systems. Drivers caught on camera running red lights get photos of the violation and tickets through the mail. Decatur and Normal officials say they’re interested in discussing the cameras. The measure goes to the state Senate for review. Similar bills have failed in the past. Chicago has cameras at more than 100 accident-prone intersections, with 50 more intersections planned for this year.
