CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago City Council will be considering a plan to allow around-the-clock alcohol sales from pushcarts and restaurants at O’Hare International and Midway airports.
Despite initial objections by several council members, the measure was cleared Tuesday at a joint meeting of the council’s Aviation and Licensing committees, with only one alderman voting against it.
City Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino says 24-hour-a day carts selling beer and wine would help O’Hare offer passengers the amenities they expect at a world-class airport.
Only restaurants with liquor licenses at the airports could apply to operate pushcarts, which would be located only beyond the security checkpoints at passenger terminals. The proposal would allow 12 pushcarts at O’Hare and five at Midway.
There are currently 32 restaurants with liquor licenses at O’Hare, and 11 at Midway.
