Beloved South Side Pillar Mourned After Fatal Shooting and Theft

On Saturday morning, a South Side community pillar was fatally wounded near his Auburn Gresham home and had his vehicle stolen.

According to family members, Charles Hobson, Sr., 86, simply left his home to retrieve a cell phone from his truck when he was shot. Thieves stole his vehicle and returned to his home on the 8100 block of South Throop when police were on the scene, according to WGN 9. According to a neighbor, the suspects then ran.

The loss of Hobson reverberated throughout the Auburn Gresham community. He was remembered as an upstanding man of faith and business owner.

Witnesses reported that they saw police take “someone or a group” into custody connected to the incident, but CPD would not confirm those details.

The shooting remains under investigation.
