Bill Ayers says he received more hate mail than ever before, after signing a petition that urged President Barack Obama not to lay a wreath at the graves of Confederate soldiers.

Bill Ayers says he received more hate mail than ever before, after signing a petition that urged President Barack Obama not to lay a wreath at the graves of Confederate soldiers. The University of Illinois at Chicago professor spoke Monday alongside his wife, Bernadine Dohrn, at a South Side Chicago event. Both were members of 1960’s radical group the Weather Underground. Republicans tried to link Obama with Ayers during the presidential campaign. Ayers was one of 60 college professors to sign the letter to Obama. He says he added his name because he signs "any petition that comes across my computer." Obama ended up sending the wreath to the Confederates’ graves on Memorial Day, but he also sent one to the graves of African-American soldiers. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
