Ebenezer Baptist Church had already planned a Ferguson-related race forum for Monday evening. But the injection of Attorney General Eric Holder, the head of the U.S. Department of Justice, into the mix raises the stakes significantly.
Holder will make an appearance and address the community in the aftermath of the Ferguson (St. Louis County) grand jury’s decision not to prosecute former police officer Darren Wilson who killed unarmed black teen Mike Brown.
Church officials are inviting young people to attend the forum to speak and be heard, and pray together. All interested parties are also asked to get involved on social media about the event via #CommunitySpeaksATL or #EbenezerATL.
Members of several faith communities and organizations, institutions and civic leaders have been invited along with representatives of over 10 colleges, technical schools, community colleges, Concerned Black Clergy, and community organizations geared toward the work of social justice.
Doors will open at 6 pm on Monday the program will begin at 7 pm at the historic church near downtown Atlanta.
