Art is Life for Leah 'LaQueens' Stevenson

For Leah “LaQueens” Stevenson, her life’s work began in the second grade when she developed a love for art. A regular participant in local art exhibits and functions, the 23-year-old can often be found doing a live painting — her Erykah Badu piece at the Super Ujamaa Market and her Prince piece, painted at an event following his recent death, are evidence of this ability. LaQueens‘ recent work includes her “Tree Girl” series that follows the “Don’t Shoot” movement work which she was inspired to start after participating in a 2014 Write for Rights event in honor of Hadiya Pendleton.
