Clarinet virtuoso Anthony McGill returns to Chicago to perform Friday as soloist with the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble, currently in residence at Northeastern Illinois University, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave. The Chicago Clarinet Ensemble will also include Schwartz’s “Tres Canciones,” Scott’s “Paquito,” Ellerby’s “Looping the Loop,” and Montilla’s “Four for Four.”

McGill is a native of Chicago and is currently the principal clarinet artist for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He was a member of the quartet that included cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Itzhak Perlman and pianist Gabriela Montero.

The young artist served as principal clarinet of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, following studies at the Curtis Institute with Donald Mantanaro, and at the Interlochen Arts Academy with Richard Hawkins.  He has performed at the Marlboro Music Festival, Sarasta Festival, Tanglewood, La Musica International Chamber Music Festival, and Musica@Menio. McGill has appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore and New Jersey Symphonies, as well as the Tokyo, Guarneri and Avalon quartets and Opus One. He was featured at Ravinia’s Rising Stars series, toured with Musicians from Marlboro, performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as a member of its Chamber Music Society Two.

Cermak Road, The 2010 Composers Series Wednesday, 7 p.m., featuring original compositions of AACM artists including Corey Wilkes Quintet with Cahill El’Zabar, Sara Earhart, Nicole Mitchell and Tatsu Aoki’s Miyumi Project.

CHICAGO’S MEMORIAL DAY WREATH LAYING CEREMONY and Parade will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Eternal Flame on Daley Plaza (Dearborn and Washington Streets). The parade will begin at noon and proceed south on State Street from Wacker Drive to Van Buren Street.   ANDY’S, 11 E. Hubbard St., features jazz at 5 p.m.
