A teen standing with several people in a building in South Austin was gunned down Tuesday when a gunman fired into the crowd, police said.
About 9:30 p.m., Marcus Greer was shot in the chest while he stood in the hallway of an apartment building in the 400 block of South Lotus Avenue. He died of his wound at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood less than one hour later.
Police have noone in custody.
The 17-year-old, of the 5500 block of West Congress Parkway, was a student at CSW Community Christian Alternative School, a charter school in the Chicago Public Schools system. He previously attended Crane Tech High School, according to CPS officials.
Greer is the 24th CPS student killed since the school year began Sept. 4.
