The 100 Black Men of Chicago Inc. will sponsor its 6th Annual College Scholarship Fair for high school students tomorrow at the University of Illinois-Chicago on the West Side. The free fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Forum at UIC, located at the corner of Roosevelt Road and Halsted Street. College admissions will be awarded on site along with up to 1,500 scholarships, according to fair organizers, who expect up to 6,000 students to attend the event and meet with representatives from more than 150 colleges and universities. Students are expected to attend from over 155 high schools across the Chicago area and five surrounding Midwest states. The fair is open to all high school juniors and seniors. “The 100 Black Men of Chicago Inc. is comprised of a dynamic, diverse and dedicated group of men who share a common desire to improve the chances of success for African American and Hispanic youth,” said Jeffrey Jackson, president of the 100 Black Men of Chicago Inc. “The College Scholarship Fair is an excellent vehicle and important event that will link participating colleges and universities with the best and brightest high school students in the Midwest who are looking to continue their education.” Students must come to the College Scholarship Fair with their high school transcripts, college entrance examination scores (ACT and/or SAT), and letters of recommendation, personal essays and resumes in order to be accepted for admission and scholarships.

Jackson added that the mission of the 100 Black Men of Chicago Inc. is to improve the quality of life and enhance educational opportunities for young people throughout the Chicago area. ______ Copyright 2008 Chicago Defender.
