ALTON, Ill. — Ameren has restored electricity to most of the 6,000 Illinois customers affected by a storm that caused a building to collapse in Alton. No injuries resulted from Thursday night’s collapse of the upper floors of the building that housed an antique store and graphic design shop on the first floor. Strong winds also blew out windows and toppled a billboard in Alton. Elsewhere across southern Illinois, the National Weather Service says golf-ball size hail pelted parts of Jackson and Williamson counties. Authorities say there are trees down, and the hail broke car windows. Ameren spokesman Leigh (LEE) Morris says that as of late-morning Friday, only a little more than 200 customers still were without power. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
