The American Medical Association has posted a letter on its Web site, urging President Barack Obama and Congress to reach an agreement on health reform. The letter is signed by AMA President J. James Rohack. It came hours before Obama’s planned prime-time health reform address Wednesday night and is a shot in the arm for Obama as he tries to salvage a top project. Rohack reiterates AMA’s support for reform that provides insurance for all Americans, although he doesn’t mention previous support for a public option proposal that’s among sticking points in Congress. The letter also urges repeal of the Medicare physician payment formula "that will trigger steep cuts and threaten seniors’ access to care." ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
