ALTON, Ill. — An Alton High School student is accused of battering a teacher during an in-school confrontation. Madison County prosecutors have charged 17-year-old Melissa Fisher with felony aggravated battery. Authorities say Fisher cursed teacher Tammy Wood-Mudd and walked out of the classroom Tuesday. The teacher reportedly followed Fisher to a social worker’s office and convinced her to return to class. But investigators say that when the two were walking back into the classroom, Fisher closed the door on the teacher and continued pushing it on her. Fisher fled but was arrested a short time later. Fisher doesn’t have a listed telephone number in Alton. It isn’t immediately clear if she has an attorney. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
