16th Ward alderman, Stephanie Coleman will be joined by Chicago Mayor Lori L. Lightfoot, Chicago Englewood residents, and community leaders as they officially present to the public the grand opening of the all-new 102-unit Montclare JoAnn Thompson Senior Residences of Englewood.
The Montclare offers many amenities not found in our typical senior developments; a fitness center, beauty, and barbershop, a free shuttle van to local grocery stores and entertainment outings, large community room with a dining and TV area to name a few. The eight-story affordable senior housing community is located at 6332 S. Green and has 102 units of one-bedroom units.

“Upon being elected Alderman of the 16th ward in 2019, I made a firm pledge to our residents, as well as the entire 16th Ward community that we would create a beautiful residential complex dedicated to our wonderful seniors. This development is truly a staple to the 16th Ward providing affordable housing to our seniors, along with state-of-the-art amenities that equal to a full-scale quality of life for heroes,” says Alderman Coleman.
Alderman Coleman, along with other community leaders collectively decided that this beautiful development should be named after Englewood’s late great Alderwoman, JoAnn Thompson. An Englewood resident for 40 years, Thompson was first elected as Alderman of the 16th ward in 2007mand re-elected in 2011. She passed away in 2015.

Coleman adds, “Alderman JoAnn Thompson was a tireless advocate for the Englewood community at large. She made it her mission to bring jobs, economic empowerment, and educational opportunities to every child and family in Englewood. Her caring spirit and constant smile made JoAnn someone who you wanted to be with, and her values defined what it means to build one future as one Chicago. It is with honor that I continue to carry her torch and this facility is the correct way of honoring her service to our residents.”
