Ald. Pat Dowell Meets Developers for Possible Sox Stadium, Raises Concerns

Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd) met with developers of a South Loop megaproject over a possible plan to build a new stadium for the White Sox.

The proposed site for the stadium is the expansive 60-plus acre area at Clark and Roosevelt, known as “The 78.”

Dowell, whose jurisdiction encompasses the proposed site of the “The 78” project, issued a statement following her meeting with developers on Friday. In her statement, she conveyed her optimism about the prospect of a new White Sox stadium serving as a “positive anchor for the burgeoning 78 community.”

Stating that it’s “extremely early in its process,” Dowell expressed concerns about the project.

The alderwoman specifically drew attention to potential issues from establishing a new White Sox ballpark in the area. These concerns include security measures, potential noise pollution implications, and the broader impact on the community’s overall quality of life.

“I look forward to involving my constituents, City council colleagues and the Mayor’s office as we work through these challenges and bring the 78 Development to life,” Dowell said.
